A Fairmont man was arrested Friday after police said he attempted to stab two people to death.
Ryan Yerkovich, 29, attempted to stab Courtney Younkins, whom he has a child with, and Kevin Clarke with a knife Thursday evening on Pell Street in Fairmont, according to the Fairmont Police Department.
Yerkovich and Younkins live together at a home on Pell Street. Younkins was attempting to pack her belongings and leave with her children when a altercation ensued, police said. Yerkovich armed himself with a knife, police said, and said he would kill Younkins if she left him.
Clarke was outside waiting on Younkins. When Yerkovich learned Clarke was outside waiting, Yerkovich concealed the knife and went to find him. Clarke then heard Yerkovich and Younkins fighting, entered the garage, and tried to get between the couple, police said.
Police said Yerkovich was trying to stab Younkins before he confronted Clarke and stabbed him in the right side of his chest. The stabbing caused a life-threatening injury and required immediate surgery at Ruby Memorial Hospital, said police.
Yerkovich is charged with two counts of attempted murder and malicious wounding.
