1 Killed, 3 Injured in Weather-Related Accident on I-68 at Maryland/WV Border

UPDATE (6/27/17 4:30 p.m.):

Maryland State Police have released the name of the Toyota Highlander driver. 

Xiaosun Lu, 39, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on June 23. 

The investigation is still ongoing, according to MD State Police. 


ORIGINAL (6/23/17): 

One person is dead and three are injured after an accident on Interstate 68 at the Maryland - West Virginia border.  

The accident happened around 6:40 p.m. on Friday.

A 2012 Toyota Highlander was heading east on I-68 when its driver lost control, due to wet road conditions, and spun across the median and into the westbound lanes, according to Maryland State Police.  The Toyota was hit head on by a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 pickup truck, which was driven by Wallace Buford of Terra Alta, troopers said.  

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene, while Buford and his two passengers were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, in Morgantown, with unknown injuries, according to a state police news release. The Toyota driver's name has not yet been released.

Several lanes of the interstate were closed until 11:30 p.m. while troopers investigated the accident.
