Officials at WVU said they’re taking a major step forward in the name of inclusion.
The university installed two single-occupancy, gender neutral bathrooms in the Mountainlair a few weeks ago. The school’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion said these bathrooms will make students feel more comfortable.
David Fryson, the head of that division, said this measure proves WVU will also remain a national leader in progression and inclusion.
“When you look at it from a structural standpoint, we haven’t always, as a society, made a place for everyone," Fryson said. "This is part of that expansion of individual liberties and individual rights.”
Fryson said WVU is the first university in the state to implement these restrooms, and he hopes more buildings on campus will soon include gender neutral restrooms.
