New housing is being provided for West Virginia University's workforce and Friday, Oct. 30, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Grove Street to recognize the special project.
West Virginia University and the City of Morgantown has teamed with the Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority (FMHA), to offer an employee down payment assistance program. It will be offered to its faculty and staff wishing to purchase a home in targeted Morgantown neighborhoods.
They will be houses with modern designs that hit all of the elements that the new work force housing market demands. The housing will offer flexible space, outdoor living space, and off street parking.
The project is expected to be complete April of 2016.
"We are really excited about it. We are going to use the most modern building materials and it will be extremely high energy efficiency," said John Martys, executive director of Fairmont-Morgantown Housing Authority.
