Youth Services System of Wheeling Renames Juvenile Center in Honor of Founding Director

Posted: Updated:
WHEELING - Youth Services System Inc. of Wheeling on Tuesday renamed the Northern Regional Juvenile Center in honor of their founding director, Ron Mulholland.

Mulholland led the agency from 1974 until he retired in 2003. A tireless advocate for youth, his work led to the creation of the Northern Regional Juvenile Center in 1986. The center is West Virginia's only private, non-profit juvenile detention center. The center works with young women who are committed to juvenile corrections.

YSS board member George Smoulder and Judge Frederick Stamp spoke at the ceremony.

"I think it's a wonderful name, I think it's a small token to reflect the appreciation for a person who has  been an inspiration to so many of us, who's been a real leader in terms of developing services for children and juveniles who are in need right here in the Ohio Valley," said Smoulder.

The agency now has more than 150 employees and has helped over 25,000 youths across the valley though the years.
