ROWLESBURG -

The Northern West Virginia Model Train Show returned to Rowlesburg as a part of its Labor Day weekend festivities.

The Mon Valley Historical Society as well as the Clarksburg Area Model Railroad Club set up model train displays for the community to enjoy.

Organizers said its vital to remember how important trains were in the history of the state.

"The railroad was very instrumental here in the formation of the state of West Virginia in the 1860s, and it carried us on through the industrial revolution. Although the railroad isn't quite as prominent as it once was, the model railroad hobby gives us a good chance to recreate those days," said Vice President of Mon Valley Railroad Historical Society, Gary Deavers.

Kids had a blast interacting with the model trains.

"We want to show people what the railroad once was like and how important it still is today to the American economy," Deavers said.

The train museum is just one feature the town had to offer during the Labor Day weekend. There were also craft vendors, music, and other entertainment all throughout the town.

The festival concludes with a fireworks show scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday.

The model train exhibit will be set up through Monday afternoon for members of the community to come out and enjoy.
