Grafton Neighborhood 'In Shock' After Fatal Shooting

Posted: Updated:
The general consensus at the Briarcliff Apartments on Thursday morning was shock and disbelief, as those who know Tuesday Davis tried to wrap their heads around what triggered her to allegedly kill her husband.

Authorities responded to the Briarcliff Apartments on Baltimore Avenue in Grafton just after 9:45 p.m. Wednesday night after an alleged domestic dispute between the two, according to court documents. Tuesday Sue Davis, 45, is accused of shooting her husband Gary Christopher Davis, 47, in the abdomen.

"This past week, she's been different lately. Never said much, not even hi. And she was always out saying hi," said Donna Brown, who has known the couple for six years.

"It was thundering and lightening out, so I didn't even hear the gunshot. But then my neighbor came over and told me that someone got shot," said neighbor Shawnna Allen.

Neighbors came together to grieve on Thursday morning, still in disbelief that it had come to this.

"He was kind of a little bit controlling. She was a really good person, kind, thoughtful of others. She's take anyone in if they needed a place, feed them if they needed to be fed," said Brown.

Other neighbors said it's left them a little uneasy.

"I brought my son and his girlfriend over to get some clothes because they're coming up to our farm to spend a couple days, get away from this," said Glenn Lipscomb of Thornton.

Davis was charged with first-degree murder and arraigned Thursday morning via video conference in front of Magistrate Leonard Lucas. She is being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
