The North Central West Virginia Airport has announced the results of an economic impact study.
The study shows the airport generates a total economic impact of $1.05 billion annually.
“It's clear the airport is a major contributor and plays an important role in future growth of the region. We are incredibly happy to contribute to the region's prosperity,” said President Ron Watson.
It also creates 3,400 jobs directly and indirectly and brings nearly 3,000 visitors into the area.
Benedum Airport Authority member Mike Romano said there are big plans for the future.
“We're really looking to take some opportunities to convert the West Virginia Regional Airport to a true regional airport that's going to have daily flights to major hubs around the country to give the traveling public in West Virginia and surrounding states a real opportunity to travel easier, and quicker, and cheaper."
The study also found the airport generated $23 million in state and local tax revenue.
