It was a busy weekend for the Marion County Solid Waste Authority and its contractors, as recyclable bins at sites across the county were overflowing.
Executive Director Bobbi Benson said the Solid Waste Authority was unaware of the overflow and that she and two other staff members are having a hard time keeping up with the demand.
Benson still encourages residents to recycle but says there are ways for the public to facilitate the process.
"We ask that people flatten the boxes and put them in the bins. If the bins would happen to be full, we'd like them to notify us and take it to another site or take it back home until the bin is emptied because we just don't have the manpower to clean up messes like that," said Benson.
