An Archbold, Ohio man has pleaded not guilty to murder charges in connection to the 1999 disappearance of Mary Friend, 46 and Maxine Stalnaker, 69.

Charles Steven Freeman, 51, was extradited from Ohio to West Virginia last week after being indicted on murder charges in the July 2014 term of the Lewis County grand jury.  Joseph Metz, 39, the son of Mary Friend and grandson of Maxine Stalnaker, was also indicted.  He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment.

A third man charged in the case, David Hughes, 58, entered into a plea deal in the case in Feb. 2014 for conspiracy to commit robbery, in exchange for his testimony against Metz.  Jury selection for Freeman's trial is set to begin on October 20.
