It's a new venture and a new service to the community. Marshall Health opened is own community pharmacy at its medical center. The Marshall Pharmacy is staffed by professional registered pharmacists and technicians. Director of Pharmacy Services, Brian Gallagher, says it's particularly important in the transition from hospital to home.
"When people go home they've got their medications at home, they're confused about which ones they have to take and how often. So we're trying to reduce hospital readmissions, increase quality and access and decrease costs all at the same time," Gallagher said.
Gallagher said they also have individual rooms for patients to talk to the pharmacist as well as an after-hours prescription drop box.
