Harman Community Holds Fundraiser in Hopes to Save School

Posted: Updated:
Fundraising efforts continue as the Harman community joins together in raising thousands of dollars to save the towns school.

After a large section of plaster fell from the ceiling of a room at the school, the state Fire Marshal determined the building was not safe for children until repairs can be made.

Linda Teter said the community will continue to raise money, "we are bound and determined to save our school for the children of the Harman community."

The Harman community joined together with a fundraiser Saturday afternoon to show they are "Harman Strong", a slogan Harman Firefighter ,Greg White developed.

"I felt we needed to do something, so I drew a picture and a slogan.  We then decided to make t-shirts," said White.

Residents from all over Randolph County joined in on the fun, Saturday's fundraiser included a cornhole tournament, barbeque, and gift auction.

White said, "you can't believe how good it makes me feel to see all these folks come out, to help us out. We are just one big family in Harman, all of Randolph County is one big family."

Students will attend four other area schools until repairs are completed. School starts on August 14.
