As Appalachian coal production continues its drastic decline, West Virginia’s coal-producing counties are  not only losing people as lifelong residents are forced to flee their homes in order to find work, but in many cases, they’re also relinquishing millions of dollars from their budgets.

Energy Surveys Inc. has announced that it will be expanding from its Clarksburg, WV roots, opening a second location in Washington, Pennsylvania.

The company, which provides professional land surveying, mapping, route development and GIS services throughout the natural gas market, attributed the expansion to rapid growth in its survey division and through the establishment of its new materials testing division over the last several months.

“We have had major success in our Clarksburg location and are looking forward to expansion into Pennsylvania,” Scott Shaver, Energy Surveys vice president said in a statement. “The materials testing division is something that we are all really excited about.

“It will add another service to our repertoire and make ESI even more competitive in our industry.”

The survey division's growth has allowed the company to add a new, experienced licensed surveyor to the team, the announcement stated.

“I'm so proud of what we have been able to accomplish in this short amount of time,” said President Kurt Newbrough. “Our client list is growing, the ESI staff is growing, our truck fleet is growing, and our range of services that we offer is growing.

“I have no doubt that with everyone's hard work and dedication we will do nothing but continue to grow,” Newbrough added. “The sky is the limit.”
