The Annual Mannington Fair is underway. Aside from rides, food, demolition derbies, and usual fair activities, there is another act that is stealing some spotlight, The Kent Family Circus.
Victor Kent, owner, creator, and father of the performers, has been performing magic since he was six years old.
They have been performing as a family for 25 years all over the United States.
“We are a family magic circus. We are a family that performs magic, juggling, fire eating, trapeze,” says Victor Kent, who is the father of all the performers . “You name it, we do it.”
There are 13 members who perform in the circus, but for the Mannington Fair, only six of them participate.
Every member of the family has their own different, unique talents to display.
“James is juggler, and balancer, I'm a fire eater, side show stunt, ring master magician. Amelia does hula hoop, Ariel silk, mind reading, and she is a mentalist. Olivia does the trapeze, the lira, the uni-cycle and snake handling,” says Kent of his family's roles.
These are just some of the acts the families do, and there are a few other members who normally participate as well.
They also do acts involving their pet dogs and tortoise.
They have fans who follow them around the country to witness their circus, because every show is different.
“One of the things we try to do is break away from the traditional circus in the sense of just doing a static act that is the same time and time again,” says Kent. “Because we have such a large, repeat audience base, we try to make the presentation different even if we do similar things as before.”
They will be performing at the Mannington Fair every night at 6 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. The fair ends on August 9.
