The West Virginia Oil Marketers & Grocers Association, also known as OMEGA, has launched a statewide campaign to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish foundation, and it's making dreams come true $1 at a time.
Three-year-old Rylan Rhodes is from Tunnelton and loves Disney princesses and Minnie Mouse. It was only a little more than a year ago that her world changed forever.
"Her condition is acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It's also known as AOL," said Mary Rhodes, Rylan's mother.
But through it all - chemotherapy and monthly infusions - her life changed again.
"We found out when she was first diagnosed that she would get to do Make-A-Wish. At first, it scared me because years ago, it was for kids that were terminally ill, but then they said no. Anyone who has a long-term condition gets to do it," said Rhodes.
With the wave of a magic wand and some pixie dust, Rylan's dream became a reality.
"Her wish was to go to Disney World and meet Minnie. And she also got to do 'Bippity Boppity Boo' as she was dressed as Cinderella, so every day it's 'I'm Cinderella,'" said Rhodes.
Those "glass slipper" moments are a direct result of the partnerships the Make-A-Wish foundation forms with organizations like OMEGA and their campaign at Go Mart stores.
"This is our kickoff event. We do it every year. They sold nearly 100,000 stars just in the last year, and they are our biggest donor for our chapter," said Adrianna Barbato of the Make-A-Wish foundation.
"We've got a lot of support. We've sold 100 stars at this location, and we have another location that has sold over 600 stars. We actually have the stores competing to see who can sell the most stars," said Terry Smith, marketing director for Go Mart.
While Rylan still has a long road ahead, her experience at the "Happiest Place on Earth" allows her to make big plans for the future.
"She talks about it so much, how she wants to go back to Disney, just amazing, incredible, once-in-a-lifetime," said Rhodes.
You can donate to the Make-A-Wish foundation at any of Go Mart's 111 locations.
