An Appalachian & Ohio Railroad, Inc. train carrying coal derailed in Barbour County Friday morning.
The derailment was reported at approximately 4:30 a.m. near Tygart Junction. The train was carrying approximately 99 cars, 11 of which derailed, said Bonnie Hackbarth with A & O Railroad, based in Buckhannon. The train cars were carrying coal, which spilled on the side of the right of way from the track. Cleanup is expected to continue through the weekend and will wrap up Sunday. The track is also expected to reopen Sunday, said Hackbarth.
No injuries were reported. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the derailment and Hackbarth declined to speculate.
