White Hall Hires Legal Representation to Address Town's Ongoing Alcohol Tax Issues

Posted: Updated:
Last year, White Hall Mayor Guy Ward said his town was missing out on most of its alcoholic beverage tax from an ordinance passed in 2003.

Ward originally estimated the amount exceeded $1 million, but Ward said the town has still lost a considerable sum, somewhere in the six-figures.

Ward believes some of the money is still going to the wrong place, so he's hired legal representation from Bowles Rice to address the issue with the state treasury department.

"We've been trying to get some kind of answer from the state for a year now, and we just felt it needed to be taken to the next level. We feel that the state owes us for some back taxes for several years, and for a little town like White Hall, that's a good bit of money," said Ward.

White Hall is waiting to hear from the treasury department, but Ward hopes an agreement will be reached soon.
