The friendly city is gaining some national attention.

USA Today has published a report for American metro areas that are seeing an increase in pay wages, and Wheeling made the list. The report states wages are up nearly nine percent in 2013 as opposed to 2012.

Joelle Connors, with the Regional Economic Development Partnership said the growth comes from businesses that have been in the city for s long time.

"We're also seeing an increase in the category of services, and what falls under services is the financial sector; so banking, and healthcare and that's everything from hospitals to physical therapy to anything that would fall under healthcare, and higher ed. So we've got financial, healthcare, and higher ed., and tourism and those are really our largest employers," said Connors.

Wheeling has ranked fourth on the list with other cities such as Idaho Falls, Idaho; The Villages, Florida; Biloxi, Mississippi, and Santa Cruz, California.
