Traffic on Route 50 in Clarksburg is moving slowly after a truck hauling asphalt tipped over just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Clarksburg Police said a car abruptly slowed on Route 50 west and stopped to make an illegal turn in the median, causing vehicles behind it to brake. An asphalt truck veered off the road and into the median to avoid hitting cars in front of it. When the truck traveled off of the road, it overturned and tipped onto its side. The truck hit the car that caused the initial traffic pile up, said police.
The driver of the truck was transported to a hospital from the incident. The Clarksburg Fire Department and Harrison County EMS responded to the scene. The driver of the car was not injured and will be cited for the illegal turn, said Clarksburg Police.
Traffic traveling west bound on Route 50 continues to move slowly following the crash while crews clear the scene and the eastbound lane is backed up near the scene of the accident.
The Clarksburg Police Department is investigating.
