A special meeting was held Tuesday night before Fairmont City Council's regular session to appoint a new city councilman to the Seventh Ward filling the vacant seat left by Rob Garcia.
Council interviewed four applicants, and unanimously appointed Roger Curry to serve as Seventh Ward until November's election. The three other applicants who applied were Jamie Greene, Don Chapman, and Philip Mason.
Curry took his oath in chambers and council went back to the regular meeting immediately.
“We had four people apply for this, really high quality nice people, and we were just saying to each other before this was announced. We all won tonight because we got to meet some really decent people,” said Curry.
Also at Tuesday’s council meeting they re-appointed Marry Reed to the Arts and Humanities Commission, which is a three year term that will end June 2017.
