Volunteer fire departments in Randolph County are proposing the creation of a county-wide fire fee.
The fire fee would involve nine of the county's volunteer fire departments.
The fire association board is in the process of getting signatures from residents affected outside Elkins Fire Department's first due area.
About 10 percent of registered voters in favor have to be obtained, while 30 percent of registered voters have to be opposed.
The county commission is waiting to hear more before making a final decision.
“I'm still holding out until we see what's going on. I need to hear facts from both sides “
Its unknown if the petitions will be brought up at the next county commission meeting.
The commission funds $17,000 a year for each department.
