12 Sports Weekly Golf Tip: Sand Trap

Posted: Updated:

On this week's weekly golf tip, PGA Pro Russell Reid from the Pines Country Club in Morgantown helps up work out of the bunker.

It's a shot most of us dread, but Reid said it should be your friend.

"It's one of the shots that can be your friend, because you don't actually have to hit the ball," he said.

Reid said golfers should hit about 2-inches behind the ball, and recommends golfers practice just hitting sand. He said many often slow their swing as soon as the club impacts the sand.

"A normal bunker shot is more of a 'V' shape swing rather than a 'U' shaped swing," he added. "So it is a more vertical swing, and we're going to use our wrists to hinge and our body should turn and rotate."
