1 Flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Harrison County Crash

Posted: Updated:
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department responded to a two vehicle head on crash in Shinnston Friday.

It happened at approximately 3:40 p.m. near the Gypsy bridge.  Four vehicles were involved, with one or two vehicles parked alongside the road which were side-swiped, said the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.  A Chrysler Concord driven by Heather Gaskins, 22, from Worthington and a Honda Element driven by Chad Bender, 27, collided head on.  Gaskins was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital by Healthnet.  A passenger in the Element, a woman, was transported to United Hospital Center along with Bender. Bender was transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital late Friday evening.

Both Gaskins and Bender are in stable condition at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Harrison County Sheriff's Department Lt. Sothen said the Element was traveling north bound and the Chrysler was traveling south bound.  Lt. Sothen said that distracted driving may be a factor in the crash and charges will likely be filed in the crash.

Traffic on Route 19 in both directions was backed up while crews work to clear the scene.  The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
