Work is continuing on the new Leading Creek Elementary School despite a land slip nearby.
Gilmer County Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Devono said continued storms and rain caused a hillside near the construction site to fall on the site.
The School Building Authority has already provided funding to repair the slip.
Devono said there's nothing to blame for the incident except the recent storms.
"I don't think anything was missed in the architect work or the drilling core or anything else like that, I just think the constant rain and wetness and everything caused the slip," said Devono.
Devono said the repairs shouldn't delay the opening, and the school should be ready for kids on schedule.
