A Preston County man is in jail for DUI charges.

The Preston County Sheriff’s Department arrested Christopher Byron Williams, 21, in Terra Alta early Saturday morning. Williams is being charged with DUI causing personal injury, DUI with reckless indifference, and DUI with child endangerment.

Sheriff's Deputy R.A. Stockett Jr. noticed Williams traveling on an ATV traveling westbound on Route 7 without tail lights.  The ATV was on a double yellow line and the driver, Williams, was not wearing a helmet, according to a criminal complaint.  When Deputy Stockett turned on his emergency lights, Williams looked over his shoulder and began accelerating.  Deputy Stockett pursued Williams for approximately one mile, when Williams tried to make a right turn onto North Main Street but was traveling too fast to make the turn.  The ATV traveled onto the sidewalk, where it got stuck, according to the criminal complaint.

Williams is in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail. Bail is set at $27,000.
