Wheeling Hospital Patients Can Now Access Medical Records Online
Patients who use services at Wheeling Hospital will soon have the ability to access their medical records quickly and conveniently, 24 hours a day.
A new system called "FollowMyHealth," is free for users. It is an all-in-one, computer-based personal health record and patient portal that will enable patients to actively take a role in their own health care, while simultaneously caring for their families.
"With this new way of keeping track of your health status, you can check your own electronic medical records online in a safe, secure environment from any computer, tablet or smart phone," said David Rapp, Wheeling Hospital chief information officer. "You can also communicate privately with physicians through secure messaging."
For anyone worried about security, all of the records are stored on and transmitted through HIPAA-secure servers.
Patients are able to view their test and lab results, review their past appointments, request new appointments, review medical notes and summaries from their doctors, update their health information on conditions, medications and allergies, request prescription renewals, create accounts for their children or dependent adults, set health goals, review immunization histories, review post-care instructions and connect with their doctors.
Sean Loy, Wheeling Hospital director of Clinical Informatics said the system provides enhanced communication and improves the patient experience. "It ensures you have anywhere, anytime access to your medical information without having to pick up the phone. And it gives you a greater voice in your health care."
