The Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to an ATV collision on Friday, July 4.

The collision happened on Dry Fork Road near Whitmer. The operator of the ATV was identified as Terry Riffe, 60, from Statesville, N.C.

Sheriff deputies said Riffle was traveling with other ATV’s when the group encountered oncoming traffic. Riffe braked and abruptly steered to the left, causing the ATV, a Suzuki King Quad, to overturn.

There was also a juvenile passenger on the ATV who was ejected as a result of the collision. Neither of the occupants wore helmets. Both the driver and his passenger were transported from the scene by Randolph County EMS for medical treatment.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office reminds ATV operators to ride safely and wear appropriate safety equipment. West Virginia State law requires that any juvenile operating an ATV or riding as a passenger wear an approved helmet.
