The city of Fairmont is hiring firefighters and police officers.
To become a firefighter, you must be 18 to 35 years old, have a driver's license, and a high school diploma or GED equivalency. You must also live within 15 air miles of the courthouse within a year of hire. The deadline to apply is July 28 at 1 p.m. Those who are appointed will need to pass other examinations and a background check.
The same criteria applies for police applicants, except you must be 18 to 40 years old. That application process begins Monday and will go until August 20 at 1 p.m. Those who are appointed will need to pass both a written and agility test, as well as a background check.
You can fill out an application at the city clerk's office, which is located in Room 312 of the Harper Meredith Building in Fairmont.
