Monongalia County Commission is standing up to Mon Power's proposed rate increases.
The commission adopted a resolution to send to the Public Service Commission. Commissioners also sent out correspondents to other counties in the state to join the effort to oppose the ratings increase.
"We're hoping that if the public service commission can get resolutions from 55 counties in West Virginia that they will recognize that this is not a good move and not in the best interest to the tax payer," said Commissioner Bill Bartolo.
Individual customers will have a 15 percent increase, government and municipalities will go up by 27 percent if the increases go through.
