A local man wants to improve and extend area rail trails.
Thomas David Franklin told Harrison County Commission on Thursday that he plans to use 100 parcels of land he bought in an auction to build rail trails and community gardens.
He said he got the idea when he traveled on rail trails from Parkersburg to Clarksburg.
“When I moved here from Hawaii I rode the rail trail from Parkersburg to Clarksburg and I saw there were a lot of things needed to do to it. It was segmented and it wasn't finished, so I made it my job to go out and buy these properties to develop these trails, amenities on the trial, trail heads,” said Franklin.
Franklin said he has already started some work on his own, including clearing out space for gardens, and placing trail heads in Glen Elk.
He said community support will help, you can reach him by emailing him at email@example.com.
