Albert L. Wright Jr., Pharm.D, M.H.A, has been announced as the new president and CEO of West Virginia University Hospitals.
Wright is currently the vice president of operations at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Presbyterian Shadyside. Wright was chosen in a national search to replace Bruce McClymonds, who is retiring after 17 years.
“I’m very excited to be taking this new position at Ruby Memorial and WVUH, especially at this time when it’s growing to meet patient demands for advanced quality care,” Wright said. “Leadership there is clearly devoted to the vision and mission to improve the health of all West Virginians.”
Wright earned a B.S. degree in pharmacy at the University of Toledo in Ohio, a Master of Health Administration from Ohio State, and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida. He has served in various roles at UPMC since 2009. Before working at UPMC, he held leadership positions at Dublin Methodist Hospital in Dublin, Ohio, and Select Medical Corporation in Columbus, Ohio.
Wright’s first day as the new president and CEO at WVUH will be August 11.
