New court documents show Richard Coleman, 34, allegedly told a witness he "robbed the United Bank" in Westover on January 3, 2012.

Coleman is already charged with robbing the Wesbanco bank and the Smoker's Friendly store in Westover.

Westover Police also charged Coleman with threatening lives with a dangerous weapon during the commission of a bank robbery.

The latest charges include a cooperating witness's account, identified only as "T.C.", of Coleman's actions immediately after the robbery.

According to the complaint, Coleman contacted the witness and told her to meet him at the LoJack's business in Westover. Coleman drove a delivery truck for Joe's Globe at the time, and LoJack's was on his route that day.

The witness claims Coleman was changing clothes when she arrived, and that he then moved "a couple cases of beer and a bag" from the delivery truck to her car.

The bag contained gray sweatpants with the WV logo, a hooded black sweatshirt, a baseball cap with the WV logo, cash, and a P22 handgun.

The witness claims she asked Coleman why he seemed out of breath.

"Robbed the United Bank," was his response, according to court documents.

The witness then took the items to a home on Diamond Avenue.

The complaint also alleges Coleman regularly met the witness like this to pass off goods stolen from the delivery truck.

Original Story

A Westover man is in jail, accused of two armed robberies in 2012 and 2013.

Richard Coleman, 34, is charged with the armed robbery of the Smoker's Friendly in Westover on November 25, 2012 and the Wesbanco in Westover on January 3, 2013.

According to court documents, Star City police served a search warrant at Coleman's home Thursday, following an attempted bank robbery at the United Bank on University Avenue.

Police found a car and shoes which they allege match witness descriptions from the Smoker's Friendly robbery in 2012. Police also collected Coleman's DNA, and claim it matches DNA taken from a mask left at the scene of that robbery.

Court documents also show police recovered a gun from Coleman's home, a Taurus Judge, which matches the description of the handgun used in the Wesbanco robbery in 2013. Further forensic evidence links Coleman's DNA and fingerprints to the weapon.

Police also charged Coleman with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a felony. Police claim Coleman was convicted of a felony in 2004.

Star City Police Chief Victor Probst said Friday the department had not made an arrest in the United Bank robberies but that they are "very close."
