Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center held a groundbreaking on Thursday for its new private beds unit.
Project partners were on hand to officially start work on the expansion. The center is adding 15 private bed units for short stay rehab patients.
An internet cafe, juice bar, and a rehab gym are also planned. It will also have a unit for patients with dementia.
"Health care, and the way of business has changed, and we had to change accordingly. It was just a matter of do we want to? We needed to," said Gary Schoonover, board president.
ERCC has 150 employees.
Officials said with the new rooms it's adding, it will take existing rooms and reduce them from two beds to one.
Work should finish this fall.
