Richard Riesbeck set to receive the 2014 Communitas Award
Richard L. Riesbeck, president of Riesbeck Food Markets, will receive the 2014 Communitas Award from Wheeling Jesuit University at Wheeling’s graduation banquet May 16.
Each year during commencement ceremonies, Wheeling Jesuit honors members of the graduating class, alumni and community members for their service and contributions.
“The university designed this award as a way to recognize community members who exemplify WJU’s mission of life, leadership and service,” said WJU President James Fleming, S.J. “As an alumnus and former board member at WJU, Richard knows and understands our mission and lives it out each day through his dedication to help those in our city and region.”
For several years, members of service groups at Wheeling Jesuit have worked with Riesbeck and his family of grocery stores to pick up and deliver food to organizations throughout the Ohio Valley, like the 18th Street Catholic Charities Neighborhood Center and has given more than 100 WJU students and employees the opportunity to feed the hungry. A privately owned retail firm, Riesbeck Food Markets employs about 1,200 people and operates 15 stores in Ohio and West Virginia. In addition to his degree from Wheeling Jesuit, Riesbeck is a graduate of Mountain State College, Muskingum University and Cornell University.
The university will recognize undergraduate and graduate students for their work in the classroom and for their service, with than 50 academic medals, student life and departmental awards to be handed out at the graduation banquet.
