The local Cub Scouts put a beautiful, sunny day to use for a good cause.
Pack 549 cleaned up trash at the VA park Monday evening.
It is where Pack 549 will be holding its' Day Camp over the summer. The Cub Scouts said it wanted to make sure it was clean and ready for a week full of fun with over 100 scouts. Picking up trash at the VA Park and other local parks is just one of the many ways the troop gives back to the community and learns work ethic.
"I think it is important because it will help the world stay longer," said Cub Scout Matthew Shuttleworth .
"We try to teach them how to take care of the environment," said Cub Master Fred Law. "Being that it is a beautiful and sunny day today we decided to get them out and do some fun things and pick up some trash here at the VA park."
Once a year, the Cub Scouts clean up a flower garden they have dedicated to the park. Pack 549 mulch, weed and plant flowers and have its' Pack flag in the garden to show off their hard work.
"We always try to do service projects," says Law. "As cub scouts, we try to help the community, but also try to build good ethics and morals with the kids. We also try to teach them that it is important to take care of the environment."
Right now, Pack 549 has 36 members within the different dens. Law said he hopes the group will all proceed to Boy Scouts in the future and transfer over to Troop 549.
