United Hospital Center dedicated a tree on Wednesday afternoon to honor and remember organ donors, their families, and recipients.
As part of 'Donate Life Month' the tree was planted at the People's Hospice Memorial Garden in VA Park next to the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center.
People affected by organ and tissue donation were invited to attend, including Angela Golden from Phillipi, who received a kidney transplant a few years ago.
Golden said the connection she now has with the donor family is priceless.
“They are like family, they are my second family and I'm theirs. I went to their daughter’s wedding last year and they came to my daughter’s wedding last year. It's amazing the connection we have. I think organ donation is a wonderful thing and I think more people need to be involved,” explained Golden.
Golden said she can thank organ donation for her life today.
Representatives from the Center for Organ Recovery and Education were also at the ceremony.
