Students from Harrison, Doddridge, and Taylor County schools participated in an oil and gas industry jobs event Thursday at United Technical Center.
Representatives from Pierpont Community and Technical College talked to students about available programs in the natural gas industry.
Various companies, including Gastar and Waste Management were there to talk to students about available jobs.
“In West Virginia the oil and gas industry employs over 30,000 people, and those people that are directly associated with the industry make an average wage of over $60,000 a year. It's exciting for people that have a high school degree, a two year degree, or a four year degree. We touched on all those career opportunities with them,” said Mike McCown, of Gastar Exploration Inc.
The "Energy Speaks Education Alliance" put on the career day.
