Many of the daycares and child care centers in the area have a year long waiting list. But soon a new child care academy will be open in Bridgeport and have space for 85 children, to hopefully decrease that waiting time for parents.
The Sunshine Child Care Academy has been in the works since last August.
Now the 5,000 square foot space is a reality for director Amal Guirguis, who realized the need for more daycare centers in this area when she had her five children.
"I had to drop off my little one far from my work, because I couldn't find her a place. If you try around here in Bridgeport it's a one year waiting list," explained Guirguis.
That's where the idea for Sunshine Child Care Academy came from. Guirguis said the space has room for 85 children, and the rooms will be split between the different age ranges.
"It will be from age six weeks old, to five years old. We follow curriculum. We'll have curriculum for each group of age. Even for six months we'll start touching, learning how to touch and how to feel. We'll have curriculum for one year olds, for two years old, and that's why we'll sort the children according to their group," said Guirguis.
Guirguis said she hopes after being open for six months to get affiliated with the Harrison County Board of Education and to be accredited with the pre-school program.
Guirguis said her main goal is to help the parents, and the children.
"Really my intention is to help the children to grow healthy, and to grow well prepared for school," Guirguis said.
Sunshine Child Care Academy is located on Thompson Drive in Bridgeport. It is accepting enrollment applications at this time and it will open when the spaces are filled.
The academy will offer both full-time and part-time care.
There is a registration fee, but if you ‘like' its Facebook page the fee will be waived.
