Town of Marlinton shares plans to re-build after fire
After a devastating fire this winter demolished a large portion of the business district in Marlinton, Pocahontas County, plans are coming together to re-build the area.
Mayor Joe Smith said the owner of the corner lot in downtown Marlinton has released the architectural designs for the new building.
The building will be home to several retail lots and office spaces. Also destroyed in the fire was the town's Nationwide Insurance office. They plan to rebuild right across the street in a vacant lot.
"It will be a tremendous morale boost after everything we have been through for the past 6 months with the severe winter we had and the loss of this building that had several businesses in it," said Smith.
Mayor Smith said the architect who designed the new building is actually from Marlinton and lives in New York now.
He volunteered his services to help the community after hearing about their loss.
