The Morgantown Firefighter Association hosted the annual Professional Firefighters of West Virginia Convention in Morgantown.
Firefighters from around the state and the president of the International Association of Firefighters attended.
He discussed education and the rough year firefighters have had in the U.S. as they've dealt with the loss of their own.
"During times of tragic loss they always recognize and celebrate the service of firefighters, our members. They'll call them heroes, or they'll say how they are so important to their communities. The fact of the matter is, they need to do that while they're alive and while they are doing this tough work every single day," said Harold Schaitberger, president of International Association of Firefighters.
New safety strategies will be presented at a convention in July.
