The Marion County Historical Society joined forces with Marion County Commission to celebrate the state's history with the Mountaineer State History Expo on Saturday.
Exhibitors filled all three floors of the courthouse, showcasing dozens of displays like the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II and the history of education in Marion County.
Kip Price from the Aubrey Stewart Project says it's important for residents to remember and honor the sacrifices our ancestors have made.
"People have been very touched by this story, but especially when you have one hero from your home state in James Aubrey Stewart, so we're just tickled to death to be here today," said Price.
Free trolley rides were also available, and donations could be made to the Zackquill Morgan Statue Fund.
