In the historical little town of Cairo there's a restaurant with a lot of personality.
With a Three Stooges theme, Shemp's Café is one-of-a-kind.
Owner Curtis Etheredge got the nickname Shemp from his wife, Katie who always wanted to own a restaurant.
"One night my wife had a dream…and I was Shemp! As funny as it may be we were thinking about a name for the place, and she didn't want to take all the credit for it. So we decided to go with Shemp's," said Etheredge, who all the customers now call ‘Shemp.'
Both are big fans of the Stooges and you can tell by the décor.
"Our first date we watched back-to-back stooges for 8 hours," Etheredge said.
Shemp's menu offers a wide variety of food for any taste.
"We offer pizza, homemade pizza, Philly cheesesteaks, burgers, nachos, and we also have salads for a little more healthier stuff," said Etheredge.
One stand-out item is the Philly cheessteak. The Etheredge's are originally from the city of brotherly love.
"We were only blocks from Pats and Geno's, so we kind of have an idea how they make they steaks. They use the cheese whiz, which we don't agree with, but we seem to be selling an awful lot of them," Etheredge explained.
Regular customer Gerry Bastian said everything on the menu is worth a try.
"She's a good cook; everything she cooks is really good. I like the Philly cheesesteak, I like the pizza, they make a good salad and we get a lot to eat," said Bastian.
Bastian also said that the theme of the restaurant is very unique.
"I love it! It's just the way Shemp acts too. It's very fitting for him," Bastian said.
Shemp's also has a full ice cream bar, complete with an antique milkshake machine.
Stop into Shemp's located on Main Street in Cairo.
It's open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
