FBI's CJIS Names New Assistant Director

The Federal Bureau of Investigations Director has named Stephen L. Morris as assistant director of the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services Division in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Morris recently served as a special agent in charge of the Houston Division since 2011. Morris joined the FBI in 1988 as an administrative file clerk in the Honolulu Division. Upon completing special agent training in 1991, he was assigned to the El Paso Division. In 1996, he supervised the initiation and implementation of the division's Criminal Intelligence Squad. The following year, Morris was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Criminal Investigation Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. While there, he oversaw the FBI's Domestic and International Criminal Informant Programs in support of violent crimes, drug trafficking, white collar crime and terrorism, according to a news release from the FBI. In 1999, he was named the supervisory senior resident agent for the Cincinnati Division's Dayton Resident Agency. In 2003, he was promoted to assistant special agent in charge in the Houston Division to manage the White Collar Crime and Civil Rights Programs. He returned in 2008 to the CJIS Division as deputy assistant director.

Morris is a South Carolina native and graduated from Hawaii Pacific University. He will report to CJIS in Clarksburg in April 2014.
