Jayenne Elementary School Celebrates 'Read Across America' With Dr. Seuss Books

Posted: Updated:

Read Across America is the largest reading event in the United States. This year students are celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday in the process.

Jayenne Elementary School in Marion County got into the spirit on Thursday by decorating their school with Dr. Seuss books, quotes, and more.

Members from the Board of Education came to each of the classrooms to read one of Dr. Seuss' classics to the students.

"Dr. Seuss just brings out the inner kid in everyone. He just makes reading so much fun for children and that's what we need back in the schools," said Wendy Wolfe, fourth grade teacher.

"Our teachers have gone all out with their doors and their hallways and their bulletin boards," said Devon Neptune, kindergarten teacher. "It really just boosted the enthusiasm and our students in turn have come so enthused about this week and about reading."

Some of the school's special readers included Superintendent Gary Price, Pierpont Community & Technical College President Doreen Larson, and members of the Fairmont State University football team.
