For some, the day before Ash Wednesday is known as "Fat Tuesday," but others, it can also be called "Pancake Tuesday."
The Christ Episcopal Church in Clarksburg held its annual "Shrove Tuesday" Pancake Supper, free to all community members.
Patrons had their choice of either pancakes or buckwheat cakes, with sausage to accompany either.
Organizers said the tradition has been in the community for years.
"The idea we've always had in the Episcopal Church is that the day before Ash Wednesday, we clear out our cabinets of all the fattening foods that we're going to deprive ourselves of during Lent. Milk, cream, and flour....those are your fattening foods in your cabinet. We encourage everyone to pig out on Tuesday," said Anne West, minister of the Christ Episcopal Church.
Patrons also had the opportunity to give donations to some local nonprofit organizations, like the Clarksburg Mission and the Farmer's Market.
