On Saturday, eighth-grade students from nearly a dozen middle schools in West Virginia came together in Bridgeport for the regional state history bowl tournament.
The competitors, who have been preparing for this event for months, buzzed in to answer questions about the state's history. Those in attendance said the competition was intense.
"It's been my favorite subject for awhile, and we have a really good teacher that shows the good things in everything," said Jared Fagan of of St. Francis de Sales.
"We had practice after school. We'd go to our teacher's room, and we would practice with the buzzers," said student Andrew Christy of St. Francis de Sales.
Teams from Fairview and Mountaineer Middle Schools placed first and second, respectively. They're headed to the state tournament in Charleston.
