U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II said Robert Fleming, 30, intended to harm the correctional officer in the June 2014 assault.

A Martinsburg man was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Martinsburg to seven years and three months in prison for dealing crack cocaine.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld II said Derrick Wayne Wells Jr., 24, of Martinsburg, also will have to complete three years of supervised release for possession with intent to deliver crack. Wells is in the custody of U.S. marshals pending designation to a federal prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod J. Douglas and investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, consisting of officers from the West Virginia State Police - Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Martinsburg police, the Berkeley County sheriff's department and the Jefferson County sheriff's department.

Also in Martinsburg, Sandra Kuhns, 60, pleaded guilty to making a false bankruptcy declaration.

Between December 2009 and June 2012, Ihlenfeld said Kuhns intentionally under-reported the fees she charged and received as a bankruptcy petition preparer on more than 40 bankruptcy petitions. Kuhns, who is free on bond pending sentencing, faces up to five years in prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar and investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
