If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

The West Virginia Economic Development Authority has approved the sale of about a 17-acre parcel in Weirton's Three Springs Drive Business Park to Pietro Fiorentini, an Italian company that manufactures gas pressure regulators and gauges for the oil and gas industry.

Fiorentini has six months to finalize the deal.

"It's great news," said Pat Ford, executive director of the Business Development Corporation of the Northern Panhandle. "But there are still a couple of major steps they have to take over the next six months before the deal is final."

Fiorentini is planning a $7.5 million investment at the site, located on the back side of the business park. The project will initially create 41 full-time jobs paying an average salary of $50,000 a year. Eventually, as many as 150 people could work at the plant.

Mayor George Kondik said he's "very excited about Fiorentini's commitment to Weirton."

"It's going to be good for our city," he said. "It's going to create jobs and revenue."

He said city administrators and the BDC have been working hard to bring the project to fruition.

"This (announcement) is part of what we're doing in our city to promote economic growth, and I foresee more opportunities."
