The United Way of Marion County held a celebration on Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus to officially announce that it had surpassed its goal of $425,000.
The campaign officially closed on December 31, so any money that was made after that will go toward next year's campaign.
Chairwoman Rosemary C. Phillips said the United Way is extremely appreciative of the community's efforts, especially since it already has a jump start on next year's fundraising.
"We are just so thankful that the people of Marion County have been so generous with us, with the United Way campaign. We couldn't have done this without it because we have a lot of needs in this community, and everybody has been very generous," said Phillips.
Up next for the chapter: officials will hold an "Empty Bowls" soup luncheon in March.
