UPDATE: Man indicted by grand jury for bank robbery in Charleston, WV

According to a news release issued by the Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, Basil Smith was indicted by the Kanawha County Grand Jury Wednesday, June 18.

Smith was indicted on the charged of bank robbery which occurred in February of 2014.

Smith's trial will be held July 8 at 10 a.m. in front of Judge Jennifer Bailey.



In a press conference, the Charleston Police Dept. responded to a robbery on Tennessee Ave.

Police took a suspect into custody as he was trying to leave the scene on foot.  The suspect was named as Basil Smith, from Charleston.

No weapon was shown during the robbery.



The Charleston Police Dept. is on scene at a reported bank robbery.

Police say they have detained suspect. 

A police office was involved in a car crash on his way to the scene.  No injuries were reported during the bank robbery or the car crash.
